Privacy Policy

How selectm.tv handles personal information for the shared YouTube music-video channel, including Google sign-in, votes, and Square payments.

Who we are

selectm.tv is a live, shared YouTube music-video channel: everyone watching at the same time sees the same clip, kept in sync by a server clock.

We are based in Australia and try to handle privacy requests in a way that is friendly to Australian privacy expectations.

What this policy covers

This policy describes the personal information we collect when you use selectm.tv, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the website, sign-in, voting, hearts, video submissions, and vote-pack purchases.

These are plain product policies for selectm.tv. They are not a formal lawyer review, legal advice, or a substitute for a professionally drafted agreement.

Information we collect

Account and Google sign-in. You can watch as a guest. If you sign in with Google, we receive the account details Google shares with us — typically your name, email address, and profile photo — so we can create or recognise your selectm.tv account. We do not receive your Google password.

Channel activity. When you are signed in we store votes, video submissions (YouTube video IDs and titles), heart reactions at the room level, and a vote wallet (starter credits, hourly free votes, and purchased votes).

Payments. Vote packs are sold for USD through Square. Square processes the payment. We keep enough order metadata to credit your wallet (for example user id, pack quantity, and Square order/payment ids). We do not store full card numbers on selectm.tv.

Technical data. Our host (Cloudflare) and the app may process IP address, browser type, and similar request logs needed to run and secure the service.

Cookies, local storage, and similar tech

We use cookies and similar storage so the product can work, not for third-party advertising.

Session cookies (httpOnly, prefixed for selectm-tv) keep you signed in via Better Auth. A theme cookie and matching localStorage value remember light/dark preference if you use themed pages. A last-used login method cookie can highlight Google vs email on the login screen.

The channel also uses localStorage to remember YouTube videos you pinned during a session in the selection sheet. You can clear cookies and site data in your browser; doing so will sign you out and reset those preferences.

Embedded YouTube players and Google sign-in are provided by Google. Those services may set their own cookies or collect data under Google’s policies. Square Checkout may do the same for payments.

How we use information

We use this information to run the shared channel (playback, Coming Up queue, hearts), to let you vote and submit videos, to grant starter and hourly votes, to complete Square purchases, to keep accounts secure, and to contact you about the service if needed.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Who we share it with

Google — sign-in (OAuth) and YouTube embeds / Data API for search and catalog metadata.

Square — vote-pack checkout and payment confirmation.

Cloudflare — hosting the Worker, D1 database, R2 storage if used, and related infrastructure.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the service, or if we transfer the project to a new operator (you would still be able to ask us about your data).

Retention

We keep account, wallet, vote, and submission records while your account exists and as long as we need them to operate the channel, handle payments, or meet legal obligations. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and debugging. You can request deletion of your account data; we will remove it as promptly as we reasonably can.

Your choices and Australian privacy

You can watch without an account. You can sign out at any time. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. We will respond as promptly as we reasonably can.

If you are in Australia, you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy complaint.

Children

selectm.tv is aimed at a general audience around music videos. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product changes. The effective date at the top of the page will change when we do. Continued use of selectm.tv after an update means you have seen the new version.
